Description

This live, interactive workshop is designed for medical and dental professionals who want to improve outcomes in patients with chronic pain, airway dysfunction, and head and neck issues. You’ll observe and experience craniofacial physical therapy techniques that address the root causes of:

  • TMJ and facial pain

  • Poor posture and spinal instability

  • Chronic neck tension and clenching

  • Mouth breathing and airway-related disorders

Learn how physical therapy focused on the craniofacial, cervical, and respiratory systems can complement the care you already provide — and see how a collaborative approach can transform your most complex patient cases. Snacks and refreshments provided.

Course Benefits

  • Discover how craniofacial PT supports dental and medical care

  • Learn when and how to refer patients for faster, lasting results

  • Understand the impact of breathing on posture, pain, and function

  • Experience manual techniques, dry needling, airway stabilization, and ARP Neuro

  • Build your referral network with a trusted, evidence-based approach

  • If you treat patients with neck pain, headaches, facial tension, clenching, TMD, or airway-related issues — this workshop will give you a new lens for understanding and treating the root causes.

Craniofacial physical therapy is a missing piece in the care of many complex cases. At the Hobson Institute, we don’t just treat pain — we address the structural and breathing dysfunctions that drive it.

    By attending, you’ll:

    • Discover a hands-on, integrated approach that links posture, breathing, and craniofacial alignment

    • Understand why so many chronic pain patients don’t improve until breathing and structural patterns are addressed together

    • Experience the therapy yourself through live demos of manual techniques, airway stabilization, and ARP Neuro stimulation

    • Know when and how to refer your patients for better, faster outcomes

    • Join a growing network of providers committed to holistic, airway-informed care

This is more than a lecture — it’s a powerful opportunity to experience the difference firsthand and reimagine what’s possible for your most complex patients.

Continuing Education Credit

2.5 hours of CE credits available for Dentists, assistants and RDHs,.

Course Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify signs of craniofacial and airway dysfunction contributing to facial pain, TMD, and postural imbalance.

  2. Describe how dysfunctional breathing patterns (e.g., mouth breathing) affect the cervical spine, cranial alignment, and neuromuscular regulation.

  3. Observe and experience hands-on techniques used in craniofacial physical therapy, including manual therapy, dry needling, capnometer testing for breathing dysfunction, uplocker oral posture training and airway stabilization strategies.

  4. Understand the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in treating complex head, neck, and airway-related cases.

  5. Recognize appropriate referral patterns and how physical therapy can enhance outcomes in dental and medical care plans.

Course Schedule

6:00 – 6:30 PM | Meet & Greet
Enjoy light refreshments while connecting with fellow providers and the Hobson Institute team in our new Lincoln Park clinic.

6:30 – 7:15 PM | Educational Lecture
Dr. Jenny Hobson and Renuka Chiljawar, PT will present an overview of craniofacial physical therapy and its role in treating airway dysfunction, facial pain, TMD, and postural issues — with a focus on clinical integration for dentists and physicians.

7:15 – 8:30 PM | Live Demonstration
Experience the therapy firsthand through interactive demonstrations of manual techniques, airway stabilization maneuvers, and ARP Neuro therapy — with opportunities for volunteer participation and Q&A.

About the Facilitator

Dr. Jenny Hobson, PT, DPT, MTC, CFC   is a European-trained physical therapist with advanced expertise in manual therapy, craniofacial rehabilitation, breathing retraining, and oral posture correction. She is one of only two physical therapists in the U.S. selected to teach Dr. Mariano Rocabado’s TMD and craniocervical method through the University of St. Augustine, where she earned her doctorate, manual therapy and craniofacial certification.  In 2010, she was instrumental in changing the IL PT practice act to include Dry needling through the help of her mentor, Dr. Jan Dommerholt.   Dr. Hobson’s integrative approach draws from the structural foundation of Rocabado’s work, the functional breathing science of Patrick McKeown, uplocker suction airway stabilization and the neurologic cranial nerve regulation strategies of Dr. Lois Laynee.

Through this unique fusion, she developed a comprehensive system that restores airway health by retraining posture, breathing patterns, and nervous system balance. Her model integrates manual therapy, dry needling, myofunctional techniques, and craniosacral work to address conditions like TMD, sleep-disordered breathing, migraines, and chronic pain.

Dr. Hobson treats both pediatric and adult patients at her three Hobson Institute locations in Chicago and offers a range of online and in person courses for medical professionals and patients alike. She teaches the Rocabado method to PTs and dentists and is actively training interdisciplinary providers in her “Intro to Airway Evaluation & RX” course, advancing a collaborative approach to airway-centered care. Her mission is clear: to help people breathe, sleep, and heal through structure, function, and regulation.

Renuka Chilajwar, PT, MPT, completed her physical therapy degree in 2006 at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India. She has extensive experience providing inpatient, outpatient and home-care rehabilitative services for patients with orthopedic, neurological and cardio-pulmonary conditions across all age groups including pediatric, adult and geriatric.
Renuka brings a unique perspective to our practice through her experience in orthopedic rehabilitation techniques and has completed specialized training in craniofacial pain, headaches, TMJ, and tinnitus. She is currently completing her cranio-facial certification from the University of St. Augustine, Florida. In addition, she is fully certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling, trained by the renowned Dr. Jan Dommerholt, through Myopain Seminars.
