Craniofacial Pre & Post-Surgical Care

Craniofacial pre and post-care refers to the specialized medical and rehabilitative support provided to individuals undergoing craniofacial procedures, both before and after surgery.

At the Hobson Institute, a renowned center for craniofacial treatment, this care is crucial in achieving optimal patient outcomes and improving their quality of life.

Pre-and-Post-Op treatment will accelerate the healing process and result in a speedy post- surgical recovery.

Treatments Used During Recovery:

Post-Surgical Edema or swelling will be treated. Our therapists are trained to recognize, assess and treat post-surgical edema with specialized techniques to enhance the lymphatic system, including Lymphatic Drainage.
Soft Tissue Mobilization and myofascial release are used to treat fibrotic or scar tissue. This will allow the layers of healing tissue to align themselves in the optimal manner to reduce swelling, thickening and scarring under the skin.
Breathing Re-Training to restore nasal and diaphragmatic proper breathing pattern to improve overall health and sleep.
Specialized Manual Therapy to the neck, face, jaw and shoulders help promote proper posture and alignment for optimal function.
Postural Retraining to restore proper posture of the spine and body.
Modalities such as light laser and ultrasound may be used to reduce pain, reduce scarring and promote faster healing. Biofeedback to retrain the facial muscles and breathing.
Speech and Swallowing Therapy will be prescribed to the face, head, neck, and shoulders to improve strength and range of motion of the upper quarter. The goal is to restore comfort when speaking, chewing, swallowing and facial expression. Return to normal activities and exercise is accelerated with this treatment.

World Class Experience

Dr. Jenny has spent several years training with post-surgical head and neck physical therapist experts, Dr. Mariano Rocabado and Susana Petermann, PT in Santiago, Chile. In Chile, they have developed a post-surgical protocol for orthognathic surgery and facial surgery to restore normal function that we are proud to offer at Hobson Institute. Treatment of the neck and TMJ are critical in promoting optimal outcomes with orthognathic surgery. Dr. Jenny has trained her staff and also teaches these techniques to other physical therapists at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences
