At the Hobson Institute, we provide specialized post-joint replacement care for hips, knees, and shoulders. Our comprehensive approach includes physical therapy and pain management to ensure a smooth recovery and help you regain mobility and strength. Our goal is to support your journey toward a pain-free, active lifestyle after joint replacement surgery.
Total hip replacement (THR), or Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), is a procedure that removes damaged bone and cartilage and replaces it with prosthetic components. THR is one of the most cost-effective and consistently successful surgeries performed in orthopedics.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) or total knee replacement (TKR) is a common orthopedic surgery that involves replacing the articular surfaces (femoral condyles and tibial plateau) of the knee joint with smooth metal and highly cross-linked polyethylene plastic. TKA aims to improve the quality of life of individuals with end-stage osteoarthritis by reducing pain and increasing function, and was found to improve patients’ sports and physical activity. The number of TKA surgeries has increased in developed countries, with younger patients receiving TKA.
Shoulder replacement removes damaged areas of bone and replaces them with parts made of metal and plastic (implants). This surgery is called shoulder arthroplasty. The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint. The round head (ball) of the upper arm bone fits into a shallow socket in the shoulder. Damage to the joint can cause pain, weakness and stiffness. Shoulder implants are available in a few different shapes and a range of sizes. Replacement options include partial and total using either anatomic or reverse implants.
Conditions that can damage the joint include:
Osteoarthritis. Known as wear-and-tear arthritis, osteoarthritis damages the cartilage that covers the ends of bones and helps joints move smoothly.
Rotator cuff injuries. The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint. Rotator cuff injuries sometimes can result in damage to cartilage and bone in the shoulder joint.
Fractures. Fractures of the upper end of the humerus may require replacement, either as a result of the injury or when the prior surgery for fracture fixation has failed.
At Hobson Institute, we prioritize your well-being and recovery journey through our joint replacement therapy. Initiating therapy on the day of surgery brings numerous benefits, including shorter hospital stays, reduced pain levels, and improved functionality. Our post-operative rehabilitation focuses on addressing your specific functional needs, such as mobility, strength, flexibility, and pain management, with the ultimate goal of achieving maximum functional capacity before discharge.
